Siberian Huskies - AppearanceSiberian Huskies are working dogs and should display a considerable amount of strength. Dogs that come close to the official AKC standard are compactly built and do not show any signs of being overweight. Males are usually bigger than females. Their height ranges from 21 to 23 inches when measured at the withers. Females are rather feminine, yet showing no weakness. They reach the height of about 20-22 inches and weight from 35 to 50 pounds, ten pounds less than males.
The deep chest tapers to the medium-sized head. The muzzle is moderately long, resembling neither pointing dogs, nor dogs with squarely-shaped muzzles. The eyes that can be of brown, blue, or parti-colored are almond like and have a keen expression. The highly set ears are always erect with slightly rounded tips. The Siberian Husky has a double coat with a dense under coat and straight outer hairs. It is of medium length, yet a good means of warmth isolation. It can be of any color. Siberian Husky males shed once a year, whereas females change their coat twice a year. Siberian Huskies - Health ConcernsSiberian Huskies are robust dogs that do not have inherited diseases. They suffer mostly from PRA (progressive retinal atrophy), cataract, glaucoma, and some other ailments. The life span averages 11-13 years.Siberian Huskies - NeedsSiberian Huskies are not recommended for novice owners. These dogs do better in cool climates and need a lot of everyday exercise. Though Siberian Huskies are rather quiet in an apartment and seem to be OK, a house is better suited for them. The ease of upkeep, amiable personality, and a wide range of uses have provided for much popularity. Hence, Siberian Huskies are one of the most popular and loved breeds of dog.
